Don Ingram

From a dead sleep I was awakened to that one word,"Now". This is what Don Ingram said happened to him. He did not understand why or what it was all about, but he says he knew that it was God speaking to him. He would find out later what God had in store for him.

By turning in his letter of resignation on March 5, Central Alabama Community College head baseball coach Don Ingram put an end to more than 25 years of coaching a sport he dearly loves - the last eight years in Alexander City for the Trojans.Ingram's decision to step down was based on the school's decision to remove two 8-foot by 12-foot signs placed on the outfield wall of the Trojans' baseball field. Both signs were removed after complaints were received by school officials because of the signs' religious nature.

"I resigned because I will not compromise my commitment to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," Ingram said in a letter mailed to 2007 CACC signees. "(CACC administrators) have not in any way caused this problem. They have only administered existing state board policy."
The two signs in question were sold by the college at an sponsor fee of $1,000 each. An individual purchased one sign which read, "John 3:16" and was sponsored by the CACC Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The second sign was sponsored by Prospect Baptist Church and read, "True success is finding out what God wants you to do, then doing it." Alexander CityOutlook

On May 27th coach Don Ingram spoke at the evening service here at Victory. He gave a brief history of his life and told how God had prepared him for the mission He had in store for him. He explained to the congregation that when he received the instruction to remove the signs that it upset him greatly. On the day that he drove up and saw the two signs being removed he realized what the word"Now" meant. He realized that someone had to step up to the plate and take a stand, not later but right NOW. He went on to encourage everyone to continue to take a stand. He also made the point that this fight would probably be best fought in Montgomery.
